Snowman Story, a 2019 narrative adventure game by Japanese independent developer Odencat, is now available on Steam. This well-known story about a snowman’s trek to reach an arctic paradise where he may be safe from the approaching spring previously won a Google Indie Games Festival 2020 award. The game’s new and improved Steam edition will also include various quality-of-life improvements. For one week following the release date, the price will be reduced by 20% as a launch promotion.
In Snowman Story, players take control of a snowman named Chris on a quest to reach a fabled location far to the north—a utopia where it is rumored that his type may be able to avoid melting when spring arrives. Along the way, he’ll meet a slew of woodland creatures who will guide him and assist him with the game’s icy puzzle sections.
He’ll also walk in the footsteps of other fallen snowmen, each with their own terrible story to tell about how they attempted and failed to accomplish the same journey. Chris might be able to avoid the same fate by reading memories from their remains and hearing their warning tales.
The Steam version retains the charm of the original mobile game, but adds the following new features:
- Controller support and landscape mode: Previously only in portrait mode, Snowman Story has been optimized for PC. The landscape view allows for a larger, more detailed depiction of the game world. In addition, the game now features full controller support.
- Additional voice effects for all characters: Each of the game’s characters brings their own unique voice to the story, creating an even more immersive narrative.
- New and improved English translation: the game’s English text has been fully revised to ensure that the spirit of the original script is lovingly preserved, making for a much more entertaining, heartwarming, and emotional experience.
With these new additions, plus all previously released additional content from the mobile version, this cozy Christmas tale is the perfect game to bundle up with this holiday season!
