Magicka

There’s still some significant additions to be made to Magicka — player vs. player action, for one, which is soon coming for free — yet developer Arrowhead Studios is already acknowledging a sequel is essentially a guarantee. With more than 100,000 downloads of the Vietnam expansion alone, that comes as not especially surprising (but still quite pleasant) news.

“When we — and I’m not saying ‘if’ — but ‘when’ we are doing a sequel to this game, it’s going to be done on a totally different technology,” CEO Fredrik Wester told Joystiq. He admitted (as if it would be possibly to deny) that Magicka was initially “super buggy” but claimed the developer “addressed most of [the issues] in the first week.”

Wester recently suggested an Xbox Live Arcade version of Magicka would likely be out in early 2012 but would not commit to such a date. As for a PlayStation Network version, he said, “PSN should be a no brainer, and I’m saying should because … I can’t really say anything more at the moment.” As with the XBLA version it’ll be interesting to see how the controls are modified to work on a controller’s more simplified setup. “I’ll let you know as soon as I can say more,” he said of a possible PSN version.
