We’ve been expecting LG’s successor to the oddly shaped LG Vu soon, and it looks like they’ll be releasing the third iteration in the Vu lineup in October to take on Samsung’s latest phablet. The LG Vu 3 is rumored to sport a Snapdragon 800 processor, 13 megapixel camera, and 1280 x 960 resolution screen, which keeps it in line with the weird aspect ratio for this family of devices. On top of those specs, LG is trying to hit a lower price point than what Samsung can, despite having some pretty high end tech in the Vu 3.
Alongside the phone itself, LG is launching several QuickView cases which are slightly different than what Samsung offers. These cases are semi-transparent around the middle of the front cover, allowing the screen to show through important information without having a window or having to open the case. It’s really a pretty neat concept that looks surprisingly good.
Still, with Samsung’s latest Note shipment numbers, I find it hard to believe that a device as weird as the Vu is going to be able to offer any meaningful competition in that niche market. Of course, I thought the original LG Vu was going to fail, too, but three phones later, LG is still manufacturing them. There’s obviously some people out there that like these phones, I’m just unfortunately not one of them.
