While Japanese sales figures usually come out later in the week, the runaway success of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd seems to have accelerated that process. One day after Capcom announced that 2 million copies have been shipped to retailers, Famitsu is reporting that 2,146,467 copies of the PSP title were sold in its first five days of release, a record for the system.
Huge Monster Hunter sales figures also meant huge numbers for the PSP. While Sony’s handheld console was already posting higher-than-normal results leading up to this release, Famitsu is reporting that a record 326,639 PSPs were sold last week. These sales do not include the PSP Go as it lacks a UMD drive and Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is, at present, only available in that format.
