In the coming months, that’s a real lack of new content on the way from Nintendo. It’s been noted quite frequently that the 3DS launch lacked the sort of Nintendo titles one might expect; the company said this was to allow third parties to shine, yet there is only one 3DS title announced to be coming from Nintendo between now and the end of June. That would be The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, which has been given a release date in the U.S. of June 19.

The fact that it’s a 12-year-old game is sure to attract some complaints, but it’s still more “core” content than what will be seen on Wii in the coming months from the platform’s maker. According to a release schedule that was put out today, the next two Wii titles it will publish won’t be out for another two months. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime claimed last month that the current first-party drought on Wii could be blamed on the launch of the 3DS and Pokemon Black/White. True or not, that’s unlikely to quell rumors that the lack of Wii games is actually due to the readying of a Wii successor. And while you probably shouldn’t count on that coming this year, a reveal at E3 in June isn’t entirely far-fetched.
