The Kinect camera will soon be compatible with the new Lync corporate video chat program, Microsoft announced today. The update will potentially allow businesses to communicate between the “boardroom and the living room.” (via ZDNet)

Formerly known as Office Communicate, Lync features an audio and video conferencing tool; voice call service and instant messaging service. It includes support for PCs, Macs, browsers and desktop video phones, and mobile phone support is planned for 2011.

Kinect doesn’t support the platform at the moment, but does work with Windows Live Messenger. A future software update will add support for Lync.
