Just a few days after teasing that the new game from former Portal lead Kim Swift would be revealed at PAX Prime, we’ve got our first look at Quantum Conundrum. We knew it would be something “quirky” and aiming to appeal at “a more diverse audience,” two things it seems to have going for it.
As unveiled by GameSpot, Airtight Games’ new project has you playing as a young kid visiting his uncle, who is an inventor. When things go wrong, he disappears and you’re forced to find him. The game was clearly influenced by Portal, though that’s hardly a bad thing. It is, like Portal, a first-person puzzle/platformer. Rather than have a Portal gun, players use the Interdimensional Shift Device, or IDS, which allows you to jump between different dimensions.
Each of these dimensions has a different effect on the environment — you can toss things in slow motion, reverse the gravity, and so on. By combining and using the unique features of each, you’re able to make it through rooms of your uncle’s massive mansion/laboratory.
