An ESRB listing for something called Zelda Universe was discovered today. Curiously, its platform is listed as “online,” as opposed to 3DS or Wii, as one would expect.
It’s anyone’s guess what Universe could be, but as VentureBeat points out, an ESRB listing usually won’t emerge until something is relatively close to release. Zelda Universe is the name of the official website of the Zelda series, which may or may not be a coincidence.
This past February marked the series’ 25-year anniversary. Nintendo celebrated Mario’s anniversary last year with the release of Super Mario All-Stars for Wii. It may have been a missed opportunity, but Nintendo has already promised something different for Zelda. Satoru Iwata said during GDC it would do something to “excite” fans, a comment that Reggie Fils-Aime would only address by saying, “All I can tell you is, it’ll be different from what we did for Mario. But it will also be just as special.”
