Raptr has announced a collaboration with Intel to provide game optimization tools for Intel graphics-based PCs. As of today, owners of PCs that include Intel graphics technology released in the last three years will receive support for Raptr’s suite of tools.
The Raptr application tools provide game optimisation, gameplay recording and streaming, and automatic driver detection. In addition to being offered to existing owners of Intel-based systems, the Raptr client will also be available on new systems.
“Our goal is to help you have a fast, beautiful, and hassle-free PC gaming experience… you’ll start seeing [Raptr] pre-installed on Intel-based systems over the course of the next year and beyond,” Raptr CEO Dennis Fong told GameSpot in an interview.
“Looking at the 40 million plus users that we have on Raptr, we know that close to ninety percent of PC gamers never touch their settings. They just use what comes right out of the box.” Raptr aims to change this with their client, allowing users to optimise settings based on the hardware setup in their PC for each game. The company hopes to achieve this via the partnership with Intel and AMD, who have what Fong describes as “labs.”
“They have test labs, where they have people testing across hundreds if not thousands of hardware configurations to make sure they work well with games. At some point, they’ll say ‘at x and x type of hardware configurations for x game, these are what we think are the optimal settings,'” he said.
Video capture and streaming will also be features that Raptr is focusing on by adding support for Intel Quick Sync technology. This allows users of Intel-based systems to record and stream their game “while minimising the impact on system performance.” Fong described the affect on system performance as “close to three percent.”
It is worth noting that Nvidia offers a similar optimisation service called GeForce Experience, which launched its open beta phase in January 2013. For more of our coverage of this year’s Game Developer’s Conference, check out our hub.
