Inside the Video Game History Museum

Step inside our exhaustive photo gallery from Classic Gaming Expo 2010.

One of the mainstays of the Classic Gaming Expo since its 1998 premiere has been its museum section. Here, several hundred items — some rare, some memorable, all of them interesting — are displayed for show-goers to learn about and absorb. It is here that one might see one-of-a-kind items like unreleased video games, original artwork, or sometimes entire game systems that were never sold in stores.

The show’s organizers announced their intent this year to give these items a home in a permanent museum space, which is great news for the industry. For now, though, the only way to see this stuff is to travel to the Expo itself.

1UP was there, cameras in tow, and we brought back lots of photos to share. While we didn’t manage to capture EVERY piece — the museum is rather dense — this is a pretty good preview of what you’ll be able to see when the Video Game History Museum opens its doors sometime in the future. To help you know what you’re looking at, we’ve also added captions and descriptions where appropriate.
