As part of their Comic-Con presence, Microsoft and Bungie have revealed two new modes for Halo: Reach: an updated version of their map editor called Forge World, and new version of Firefight called Versus Firefight.
Forge World will use the new Forge 2.0 toolset, an update to the map creation tools first introduced in Halo 3, and will allow up to eight players to create together over Xbox Live or system link, and four players in split-screen. But the standout feature of Forge World is the “World” part — the area that players will be manipulating with the toolset is so enormous, Bungie explains it was originally going to be five separate maps that they decided to connect together into one huge, contiguous space. To get some idea of just how large it is, IGN explains a new iteration of the classic Halo map “Blood Gulch” (called “Hemorrhage” in Reach) can be found in Forge World, and it takes up just one small part of the overall area.
All of Forge World can be used as one massive map if players want, or they can they can use smaller chunks of it for their map creation. In fact, Bungie will include six maps (“Hemorrhage” being one of them) that they made within Forge World — using the same Forge 2.0 tools that players will have access to — as official maps that will be part of multiplayer rotations, just to show how robust the editing options will be (there will be 150 objects in total to use and manipulate).
