The game “Gun Jam” was provided to me by thedailygamepad.net and was given to thedailygamepad.net for free by the game’s developers/publishers. On behalf of thedailygamepad.net, I’d like to thank the developers/publishers for giving a free copy of the game for this video and review.

In this Live Stream, Ready Sets Gaming plays Gun Jam on PC.

Gun Jam is a rhythm-action FPS where you must shoot, dash, and kick to the beat to survive. It features a unique beat-pattern shooting mechanic, a multi-genre OST, custom music, and firefights with hordes of enemies in a vibrant world. Prepare to obliterate enemies whilst blasting to the beat.

I truly enjoyed what I played of Gun Jam, despite not knowing about the Demo prior to the game’s release. With Gun Jam combining a First Person Shooter and a Rhythm game, and me appreciating both genres, I thought this would be a terrific game, and it is in some ways, but the game does have some faults.

I’d want to start by saying that the soundtrack is fantastic, and I adore the music in the game. In terms of controls, you can use a keyboard and mouse or a controller. One thing that turned me off was the lack of a tutorial option in the game. Some would argue that it doesn’t need a tutorial because it’s an FPS and rhythm game. However, even rhythm games provide tutorials.

The major reason I would have wanted a tutorial is that the beats in the center of the screen were so small that I didn’t detect them. The second reason was that I was a little confused about the controls, and while one can check into the options to see what the controls are, I’ll confess that it’s not usually the first thing that comes to mind.

Even if the controls appeared at the beginning of the game and mentioned the beats being in the middle as a slide, that would suffice. Furthermore, the game provides accessibility settings, which is fantastic because I was hoping for the opportunity to increase the size of the beats. Unfortunately, the game crashed when I entered the accessibility section of the options, which turned me off from the game for a while.

I was disappointed that the game crashed before I could try out the option that allowed you to import music into the game. After calming down, I returned to the game and added music to test the feature. I had to make a music folder within the game files to import the music into, but other than that, the process was simple. So I see folks who like to make music using their own music in the game.

So, while the concept of GUN JAM is intriguing and promising, there is space for improvement. Fortunately, the game has only recently been launched, so perhaps after a patch I will return to play it because I did appreciate the soundtrack; all I want is to be able to play and enjoy the game.

If you want to play Gun Jam for yourself, you may do so on PC through Steam. GUN JAM is normally priced at $19.99 USD, but is presently on sale for $17.99 USD until April 26, 2023.

Ready Sets Gaming is a variety streamer on Twitch with a love and passion for indie games. She has been gaming for 30+ years; and feels that a lot of indie games go back to the games that she grew up with and aren't afraid to think outside of the box to make a game. It is because of this thought process that she prefers to play a majority of indie titles, but still likes to play Triple-A titles and Retro games too. She enjoys searching through itch.io platform and looking for games that are stream friendly, and then playing them on stream to get them the exposure they may not be getting. Some of her favorite game genres include Platformers, Puzzlers, Role-Playing and she's recently developed a loved for Shmups.
