There’s no such thing as Black Friday in Japan but you’d never guess that from looking at the latest Media Create sales figures (via 4Gamer.net). Numbers were way up on both the hardware and software charts, thanks largely to the highly anticipated release of Gran Turismo 5. Not only did consumers buy 430,707 copies of the new racing game (more copies than last week’s top ten software combined), they also purchased 68,840 PlayStation 3 consoles, twice the number they bought the week before.

The top three games on the chart were all newcomers. Making its debut in second place was the latest Super Robot Wars (aka Super Robot Taisen) game, selling 129,054 copies. This is the third entry in the series to be released this year on the Nintendo DS. In third place was Mario Sports Mix, a Wii sports game that includes Mario characters as well as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest characters.
