Pre-release trial for downloadable DC Comics-themed shooter now available for all PlayStation 3 users; Xbox Live version requires sign-up.
PlayStation 3 gamers eager to jump into Gotham City Impostors can download an open beta for the game today, but the beta Xbox 360 players will have to settle for is an impostor of sorts.
The Gotham City Impostors public beta is available to all PlayStation Network users today from the PS3’s virtual storefront. However, Xbox 360 players will need to do a little more work to enter the trial period. Players on Microsoft’s console need to sign up at the game’s website to receive a beta key. Developer Monolith said Xbox 360 registrants would only have “a chance to receive a key.” A PC beta was not mentioned.
Developed by Seattle-based F.E.A.R. creator Monolith, Gotham City Impostors is “Batman with guns,” according to its developer. However, as fans know, Batman doesn’t usually wield guns. Thus, Impostors casts players as citizens of Gotham City who are inspired by either Batman or The Joker.
The game was originally scheduled to arrive for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on January 10. However, Monolith said feedback gathered from the game’s beta pushed the developer to delay the game to February, its current release window.
