Batman-inspired team-based first-person shooter set to hit XBLA, PSN, and PC at the beginning of next year.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is making a New Year’s resolution to enlist gamers in (virtual) neighborhood street gangs. The publisher today announced that Gotham City Impostors, a team-based first-person shooter based on DC Comics’ Batman franchise, now has a release date of January 10, 2012, on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC. A beta was also confirmed to kick off in December.

Gotham City Impostors is “Batman with guns,” according to its developer. However, as fans know, Batman doesn’t usually wield guns. Thus, Impostors casts players as citizens of Gotham City who are inspired by either Batman or the Joker.

Monolith has a long history with first-person shooters. F.E.A.R. and Condemned have been the company’s recent efforts in the genre, but the lineage goes back further with PC fan favorites, including No One Lives Forever, Aliens vs. Predator 2, Shogo, Blood, and more.
