The Google Chromecast has been taking the world by storm since its release in July of this year, selling out almost instantly across stores like Best Buy, Amazon and Google Play. Perhaps that’s why it’s been named Time’s gadget of the year!

Chromecast is already more successful than Google TV, and the number one reason for that has to be its simplicity. The goal of the Chromecast was essentially to do one thing – stream – and it did that at a bargain price of $35.

Other products on Time’s list of the best gadgets for 2013 include Apple’s refreshed line of iPads, which came in 2nd place, and the Oculus Rift development kit, which came in 3rd. The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX also made the list, coming in 7th place.
