In this Live Stream, Ready Set Indie Games plays Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed on PC.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is stated to be ” a fun, multiplayer game perfect for all skill levels. Four proton-pack-wielding Ghostbusters attempt to catch a Ghost haunting unique locations in asymmetrical multiplayer battles (online or offline). As players progress, they will unlock cosmetics and upgrades for both Ghostbusters and Ghosts to evolve their gameplay experiences. The look and feel will give fans an immersive experience in the universe, allowing them to play out their Ghostbusting fantasies. Whether hunting or haunting, the game is easy to learn and fun to master!”

With that being said it is with a heavy heart that I have to write this article as that was not the case with the game. The game itself is absolutely gorgeous and I was really excited to get into the game after the tutorial. The controls in which I opted into Keyboard and Mouse were solid, and the game seemed very promising. However, the problems came to be when after the tutorial I could not get into any games. I am not sure if the servers are inactive or if it’s something on the PC side of the game. I even had cross-play turned on in case this might help with getting into a game. However after failed attempts offline and even online during the stream, I waited a few moments with the hopes that I would get into a game, and then the game would come up and say the network connection was bad. I am wired into my router so I’m sure that isn’t the issue.

So as there was no way to really play via 4V1 and it appears that the game focuses on 4v1 I cannot recommend the game until the issues with the servers are fixed. It would have been nice to have a solo campaign mode just in case this occurred, but again the game focuses on 4V1 and since there isn’t a way to connect with other ghostbusters due to server issues, there isn’t going to be any busting at all.

I am not the only one who seems to have issues with the Multiplayer not working as DanVanDam — Whom I was supposed to play the game with — also tried and he couldn’t get the game to let him into a multiplayer session either. He was also able to do the tutorial just not play 4V1.

DanVanDam’s Notes:
Whilst trying to connect to the game I came across several issues, mostly involving Epic’s side of things. The game for the most part ran if I did a series of things within the games folder. The whole -dx11 into a shortcut fix. Which oddly fixes most issues. Even with my PC up to date with Windows 10 Pro, along with all of my DX12 drivers up to snuff with legacy trailing behind. The shining light is I have seen a handful of people able to play the game, so it seems to narrow down to some unfortunate issues with Epic’s compatibility with a handful of sources. Does this make the game bad at all? No, the game on paper and even running the single-player content, whilst would feel better with others, still was playable. Just currently a lot of technical issues arise. If you own a video card 1070 GTX you should be fine to handle the game, as it is optimized well, just when it comes to server-side stuff, that is where the issue lays, unassuming with Cross-play.

After troubleshooting with the pretty informative community on the matter it seems it all narrowed down to Epic, and not the developer’s fault really in the matter. As a big fan of Ghostbusters, the game to me gave some good vibes with the feeling of a Ghostbuster. Down to collectibles. props within the Firehouse which screamed nostalgia, in the best possible way. Including Dan Aykroyd reprising his role as Ray Stantz, and the ever-witty Ernie Hudson coming back as the now-wealthy Winston Zeddemore. Great for fans, if you’re patient with the fix, or hopefully do not come across the issues we had, back over to you Readyset!

Hopefully, down the line they get the servers sorted out because again the game looks promising, so I may try later down the line once they say they don’t have any issues with the servers, but until then I can’t with good faith recommend the game for PC.

She has been gaming for 30+ years; and feels that a lot of indie games go back to the games that she grew up with and aren't afraid to think outside of the box to make a game. It is because of this thought process that she prefers to play a majority of indie titles, but still likes to play Triple-A titles and Retro games too. She enjoys searching through itch.io platform and looking for games that are stream friendly, and then playing them on stream to get them the exposure they may not be getting.
