Getting Nostalgic at the Classic Gaming Expo

When 1UP goes to Vegas we party hard, by taking lots of photos of videogame history!

By Frank Cifaldi and Jade Kraus

Now in its 12th year, the Classic Gaming Expo is arguably one of the most important events in the videogame industry. It might not have the immediate sex appeal of, say, E3, or quite the educational impact of the Game Developers Conference, but for some of us CGE’s role is the most vital of all — instead of trying to tell us where we’re going, it forces us to take a breather and be reminded of where we came from.

Where else can you go and interact with an entire exhibit hall full of vendors selling classic videogame merchandise? Where else can you preview new games…for old systems? Rub shoulders with industry legends? Attend discussion panels where the guys who made the games you grew up with discuss their craft? Step into an extensive museum of videogame history? If you care at all about celebrating our history — and you ought to — this is the place to be.

The 2010 Classic Gaming Expo, which took place at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas, was an absolute blast. We had a great time, as evidenced by the 124 photos you’re about to experience, complete with lovingly crafted captions (where appropriate).
