Developed and Published by FreakoutGames, Sol-Bot Energy Rush is an arcade style indie game that has released onto mobile devices. Now, I normally don’t play mobile games. I’m not saying that I don’t like mobile games, it’s just normally I don’t play them often.  However, in my free time or if I am out in about or waiting at the doctor’s office mobile games are a great way to past the time. So, when I was approached by FreakOutGames about working alongside them to get their game out there and test out the game; I was more than happy to provide any help that I could. Therefore, I would like to thank FreakoutGames for allowing me to be apart of their journey in creating the game; it has been a great journey indeed.

Before we go any further into the review, please know that Sol-bot: Energy Rush is a Free to Play game. What that means is  for it to remain free the game does feature ads. These ads in turn help the developers to keep the game free. So, if you are one that doesn’t like to deal with ads, then I will say that this may not be the game for you. However, if you don’t mind the ads and are looking for something to past the time then please continue to read it.  The main concept of Sol-Bot: Energy Rush is to teach the player about the ways to save on energy and get more awareness across on doing so. At the beginning of the game you are told how you are going on a mission to get energy across to everyone. But before you start there is an icon at the bottom of the game that you can click on that gives you a little fact about saving energy and energy in general. It also provides you with some links you can click on to learn more about energy as well.

The gameplay itself is self-explanatory, you move Sol-bot from left to right by holding your finger to the left or the right of your screen.  While doing this you must collect orbs that have a glowing ring around them. Collecting the right number of orbs allows for you to move onto the next level in the game. If you collect energy orbs that do not have an energy ring around them, it renders a game-over unless you have keys to continue. There are two ways you can obtain keys. Before the game starts up you are told about keys. Clicking on the key symbol if you have none will take you to an ad to watch which will give you a total of five keys to take into the game with you. If you perish in the game, you can then use these keys to continue the gameplay. If you run out of keys and die again; you are then given the option to watch another ad, which will award you one key to continue with.

The game again is relatively new to the Google Play and iTunes App Store, and rest assure they are working on the game all the time. Some of the things I would like to see incorporated into the game would be an option to pay to have the ads removed from the game and with maybe an option to buy keys. So, perhaps later if the game does well, there could be a Lite Version and then a Deluxe Version of the game. For those who don’t mind paying to have the ads removed and having the option of either buying keys or every ten levels it gives you a key.

Another thing is there is a portion in the game where the screen is completely blank (ultimately, it’s just your character flying through space)  until you reached the next level lasers. I would like to see another energy fact there to feel the void so to speak, so that way you can learn about energy in the game as well, as clicking on the fact button on the games menu.

Overall, when it comes to Sol-Bot Energy Rush, I can honestly say it’s a game that is good for passing the time. I can also recommend it as a game for kids to play as well, as it offers the facts about energy, even though the facts are beneficial to adults as well. Again, the game is on mobile and can be found on both the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store  for free. If you are interested on how the game plays; I have included a small gameplay video that I did for the game. The video was done using the Nox Player on PC. Therefore, it may run a little choppy on PC, but the game flows very well on Mobile.

She has been gaming for 30+ years; and feels that a lot of indie games go back to the games that she grew up with and aren't afraid to think outside of the box to make a game. It is because of this thought process that she prefers to play a majority of indie titles, but still likes to play Triple-A titles and Retro games too. She enjoys searching through itch.io platform and looking for games that are stream friendly, and then playing them on stream to get them the exposure they may not be getting.
