Spartan

Things have been pretty quiet over at Robot Entertainment since former Ensemble Studios employees formed the company early last year. That all changed late last night, however, as Kotaku uncovered Spartan, a new strategy game from many of the people who brought you Age of Empires.

The first hint came from Microsoft, who announced that the company is currently seeking additional alpha testers for something called Project S — described as a “giant, revolutionary step for PC strategy games.” Further investigation yielded what appears to be an image of the game’s launcher, which clearly shows the Robot Entertainment logo and the (possibly still placeholder) name Spartan. Not only that, but Robot Entertainment’s newly-relaunched website lists two mystery projects under development, including one to be published by Microsoft Game Studios.

Kotaku’s tipsters claim that Spartan has quite a bit in common gameplay-wise with Ensemble’s Age of Empires, though the purported launch screen mentions RPG elements like quests and crafting as well. We’ll bring you any official details on whatever Robot Entertainment’s working on as soon as it’s announced.
