The notoriously leaky ship S.S. Sony has once again sprung some information before it was due, this time thanks to an apparent PlayStation Phone prototype obtained by Engadget (above). The tech blog notes that the phone is likely to include Android 3.0, plus a new Sony Marketplace to download games. This appears to do away with any form of physical games, similar to the PSP Go, but we can only hope the rebooted marketplace is more inclusive.
Other specs include a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 chip, 512 MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and a screen that measures around 4 inches. A touch pad is centered between the face buttons, and it keeps the traditional shoulder buttons. We don’t see a second analog stick, or even a first analog stick, which makes us wonder if the touch pad will serve those functions.
Of course, this is a rumor until Sony confirms it, compelling as the photo evidence may be. And keep in mind that everything we’ve seen here, including the tech specs and device layout, is in a prototype stage. That means that even if the device is legit, anything could change between now and its rumored holiday 2011 launch.
