A sequel to Far Cry 2 was acknowledged way back in 2009 by a Ubisoft writer; since then there hasn’t been much evidence to back up the game’s existence. Internet sleuth Superannuation this week found mentions of it, indicating we might get a reveal of Far Cry 3 at E3.
Stephane Julien and Lee Villeneuve both list Far Cry 3 among the games they’ve done stunt work for. Those might be typos, sure, but several LinkedIn profiles of Ubisoft Montreal staffers suggest that isn’t the case. Miguel Angel Sepulveda has “Unannounced Shooter AAA” for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 listed as one of the games he’s worked on. Before amending his profile, Michael Khabrov had “Undisclosed First Person Shooter” for the same platforms listed with the game containing “exotic gameplay,” scripted events,” and “cinematics.” And Marc Echave had Far Cry 3 explicitly listed on his profile before taking it down.
Ubisoft is, as expected, declining to offer up any sort of comment on the game. None of it’s rock-solid evidence, but given how much of it there is, combined with the comment from 2009, and it seems as if we’ll be hearing about Far Cry 3 before long — hopefully by no later than Ubisoft’s press conference at E3.
