EA bringing motion-controlled take on Hasbro’s TV game show to 360, PS3, Wii later this year.
Hasbro’s Family Game Night franchise has been a lucrative one for Electronic Arts, having sold 4 million units since the publisher began bringing the property to gaming consoles in 2008. Today, the publisher announced the latest installment in the franchise, saying Family Game Night 4: The Game Show will arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii this fall.
Family Game Night 4 is based on Hasbro’s TV show for the Hub network, reinterpreting classic board games for the game-show format. To give it that live-action feel, EA has incorporated motion-control functionality into each of the three versions, with the Xbox 360 game making use of the Kinect, the PS3 version offering Move support, and the Wii edition retaining its remote and nunchuk functionality.
Five individual games will be included in Family Game Night 4. Connect 4 Basketball sees gamers competing to sink four like-colored balls in a row, while Scrabble Flash has players rearranging onscreen tiles to form words. Sorry! Sliders and Yahtzee! Bowling both feature supersized versions of their titular board games with special rule sets. Lastly, Bop-It Boptigon offers a timing-based rhythm-game experience.
Up to two gamers can compete in Family Game Night 4 at a time, either individually or in tandem. The Xbox 360 and Wii versions of the game also support avatar and Mii integration, respectively.
