The Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition comes with a Pip-Boy that you can use with a smartphone, but one motivated fan decided to build his own functional replica that works without a phone.
Reddit user TheMCV created the device using a 3D-printed cast and a Raspberry Pi computer. Attaching the computer to the inside of the cast, he made a replica Pip-Boy that actually works as a functional device on your arm. The Raspberry Pi runs a recreated Pip-Boy user interface developed by a different user, and this software can even pull your location information if you’ve loaded the Google Maps API into it.
His Pip-Boy is controlled by keyboard, but it is still an impressive replica. Unfortunately, it’s not going on sale; TheMCV made it as a gift for a friend.
If you still want a real-world Pip-Boy, you can try to track down one of the elusive copies of the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition. It’s unavailable at Amazon and Best Buy, but Bethesda may make more available in the future. Fallout 4 launches on November 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
