Left 4 Dead developer Turtle Rock Studios has completed development on upcoming 4v1 monster-hunting game Evolve, meaning the game has now “gone gold,” the studio announced today. The game will be officially released across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on February 10.
To mark the milestone, Turtle Rock and publisher 2K Games released the game’s intro cinematic, which you can watch above.
Turtle Rock also announced today that in an effort to raise money for the video game-themed Child’s Play charity, developers pledged to not shave their beards or cut their hair until Evolve passed certification.
The studio said it would donate $50 per inch of beard grown and then cut. Now that the game has gone gold, Turtle Rock developers have shaved their faces, totaling 227.5 lost inches of beard hair in all, for a $11,375 donation.
Publisher 2K Games has matched Turtle Rock’s donation, bringing the total gift to $22,750.
In addition, the Turtle Rock developers who shaved their heads donated the trimmings to Locks of Love, a charity that gifts hair to children suffering from conditions that cause them to lose their hair.
Evolve was originally going to be published by THQ, but the publisher fell into bankruptcy. The game shifted hands in January 2013, when 2K parent company Take-Two Interactive acquired the rights to the game for $10.9 million during THQ’s bankruptcy auction.
