The following game, “Saviorless,” was provided to me for thedailygamepad.net and was given to thedailygamepad.net for free by the developers/publishers of the game. I want to thank the developers/publishers on behalf of thedailygamepad.net for providing a free copy of the game to play for this video and this review.
In Saviorless, players assume control of Antar, a resolute youngster who wants to become a Savior. Venture across the perilous route to the prohibited territory, the Smiling Islands, which, despite their name, are a planet on the edge of collapse. It is both lovely and unnerving to explore these collapsing landscapes full of secret passageways and crumbling ruins. I was quite eager to try Saviorless when I was given the opportunity to play, mostly due to its stunning visuals. The artwork of Empty Head Games has a surreal yet whimsical aesthetic. It is both satisfying and unnerving to explore the Smiling Isles because of the finely drawn scenery and smooth animations that bring the painstakingly created realm to life.
Saviorless has a disjointed, non-linear story. Through environmental narrative and exploration, you put together the tale of Antar, a young child who longs to become a Savior. Compared to stories that are spoon-fed, it’s a welcome difference.
Saviorless is a tough game, even though I truly enjoyed it. As beautiful as the artwork is, dying frequently requires lengthy trips back to the previous checkpoint. It can get tiresome to go back, especially in some of the more entwined sections. Additionally, the combat system occasionally feels a little clunky. Success depends on precise platforming, yet there are moments when the controls feel sluggish. Frustration and cheap deaths may result from this.
Again, I enjoyed the Saviorless story, but not every gamer will be drawn to the depressing tone and plot of the game. This isn’t the place to be if you’re searching for a fun little adventure.
Saviorless is a visually stunning platformer with an original story. Its difficult gameplay and harsh checkpoints, nevertheless, can make you lose patience. Saviorless is worth a look if you enjoy hard indie games with gorgeous environments to explore. You might want to proceed cautiously, though, if frustration is your worst enemy. Saviroless is available for $12.99 USD on PC, macOS, SteamOS/Linux via Steam, Nintendo Switch via Nintendo eShop, and PS5 via Playstation Store if you’d like to try it out for yourself.
