Emerald Shores is an indie game that is developed and published by Fordesoft and is coming out for PC Nov 21, 2018. In this game, you play as Alex who has been summoned by King Jeff to help out the Grabbits. The Grabbits (nice play on words by the way) are an underground rabbit race that lives in the skies on Emerald Shores. Yeah, in the words of King Jeff “Who knew.” The messenger from Emerald Shores tells you that you need to help them rid their island of the monsters from the east swamp. The monsters have launched themselves to The Grabbits’ island in the sky with their cannon. The Grabbits want them off of the island as the monsters try to build a city on the island. This city is polluting the island, and therefore they have got to go. As King Jeff tells you that this job is yours (makes me wonder who else he could have asked. Which the character makes a reference too as well.) None-the-less to get to the island you will have to travel across the lands to the swamp in the east and launch yourself onto Emerald Shores with the same cannon that the monsters used.
The game is a bit charming, but in its current build, it does have some issues. It looks like the game was going to be for PlayStation at one point and time which there is nothing wrong with that. I would like to see added to the game the controller scheme for XBOX Controllers. The reason being is that not everyone is a PlayStation player, just like not everyone is an Xbox player. So Being able to select which controller scheme you want to see would be awesome.
There was also some issues I experience with controls for the game. The analog stick on the XBOX controller was too sensitive, so it added more difficulty to the game. Luckily, you can use the directional pad as well. However, my finger felt more natural to the analog stick. Therefore, adding an options menu so you could tweak controls would be awesome.
I thought when I played the game on its regular mode that it was a little difficult. Not sure if the game is being marketed to kids or not. If it’s not a game for kids then the difficulty although brutal, it is still a bit of fun. Although at some parts in the game’s regular mode I found myself a little frustrated with the game. However, that frustration seemed like mere child’s play when I played the games Remix Mode. Remix Mode Which was a lot more brutal than the normal mode for the game.
The game is very unforgiving when it comes to playing as there are no checkpoints, so dying makes you start all the way from the beginning of the level. So, I do like that it goes back to the old school tactics of video games. Another cool thing that was also brought up it that the game feels like it could be speed ran for those who are speed runners. As I am not a speed runner, I’m not sure if it would be beneficial to add a speedrunners clock to the game or speed runners mode to the game or let the speed runners use their methods to capture their times.
Emerald Shores will be hitting Steam on November 21, 2018. There is no mention on if the game will be coming to consoles as well. However, if you are someone who enjoys a challenge, and are into platformers, then I would say keep your eye out for this game. Hopefully, some changes will be made to the game before it’s launch. The game does have room for improvement. However, we can only wait until it is released to see if those changes will be implemented into the game. If Emerald Shores is a game that grabbed your attention, you can wishlist the game on Steam.
