Microsoft’s Kinect launched in Japan just three days ago, but a merchandiser at a major retailer revealed today (via Hachimaki) that the accessory is “off to a pretty rough start.”
Taketo Matsuo is a merchandiser for Tsutaya, a Japanese retail chain that sells books, CDs, movies and games. In his weekly retail forecast for the Mainichi Shimbun, he described Kinect as “targeting light users” but said that most buyers were “existing [Xbox 360] owners” rather than newcomers. He estimated that Kinect was selling “one-fourth” the units that PlayStation Move (which launched one month ago) was selling.
