Last year’s professional fighting game EA Sports UFC, released only for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, is expanding to new platforms. Electronic Arts on Tuesday released a mobile version of the game for iOS and Android phones and tablets. The free game is available now on iTunes and Google Play.
EA Sports UFC for mobile was developed by EA Canada in partnership with the team that developed the EA Sports UFC console version. The mobile version makes use of the console edition’s codebase to offer “HD-quality visuals,” Electronic Arts said today in a press release.
The mobile version also features touch controls to kick, punch, and dodge, as well as a ranking system and in-game rewards in the form of unlockable new fighters, among other things. It features a total roster of more than 70 fighters across four divisions, including Jon Jones and Georges-St-Pierre, among others.
EA Sports UFC for mobile saw a soft-release in Canada, South Korea, Singapore, and Russia two months ago. Since then, the game has seen more than two million downloads. EA also reports that players in those markets have played for an average of 36 minutes per day.
In a statement, EA Sports general manager Dean Richards said he thinks EA Sports UFC will “set a new bar for mobile and tablet fighting games” thanks to its impressive visuals and gameplay. You can decide for yourself by watching the gameplay video above.
UFC president Dana White added: “Not only are we going to reach a broader fan base, but we’re making the sport accessible on a global platform.”
