Publisher pulls all mention of former University of Florida and New England Patriots player from college and professional games in wake of murder charges.

EA Sports has removed Aaron Hernandez–the former University of Florida and New England Patriots football player accused of murder–from NCAA Football 14 and Madden NFL 25.

An EA Sports representative confirmed the news with GameSpot sister site CBS Sports today, which came in response to a Hernandez “card” showing up in NCAA Football 14.

“We made a decision to remove Aaron Hernandez from Madden NFL 25 and NCAA Football 14. Because NCAA Football 14 was finalized prior to our decision, Hernandez’ image still appears in the Nike Skills Trainer,” an EA representative said.

“However, he is not in the game, and anyone who unlocks that particular Nike Skills Trainer reward will receive an Alex Smith Ultimate Team player item instead,” the statement went on.

“The image of Hernandez will be removed via a Title Update in the near future.”

Hernandez was arrested on June 26 at his home in North Attleboro, Massachusetts on first-degree murder charges related to the death of Odin Lloyd.

NCAA Football 14 launches tomorrow, while Madden NFL 25 releases August 27.
