Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li screenwriter to adapt film version of survival horror series.

EA announced that a Dead Space film adaptation and franchise is in the works, according to a San Diego Comic-Con panel about video game adaptations (via Variety).

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li screenwriter Justin Marks was signed to draft the film adaptation’s script, while I Am Legend producer Neal Moritz will co-produce it. Marks said during the panel that the film should not be 100 percent faithful to the game in terms of execution. “You would be making Event Horizon or Alien. I’ve already seen that movie.” He stated that filmmakers should prioritize telling the main character’s story in a way designed for the medium.

Previously, director John Carpenter expressed interest in adapting the game franchise. Currently, EA is still working on the script and will find studios to fund for it after it is completed.

Dead Space 3 was out earlier this year. The game was praised for its action and weapons customization, but was criticized for its story and change in tone and atmosphere.
