The following game, “Duck Detective: The Secret Salami,” was provided to thedailygamepad.net for free by the developers/publishers. We would like to express our gratitude to the developers/publishers for providing a complimentary copy of the game for us to play and review.
The Duck Detective is a unique point-and-click game that sets itself apart with its protagonist – a duck named Eugene McQuacklin. Eugene, our main character, has a quirky backstory, having divorced his wife due to an unusual obsession with bread. Now, as a private investigator, he’s on a case at the eccentric Bear Bus Offices. His journey begins with a receptionist suffering from a mysterious ailment, a puzzle he must solve to meet his client. As the game unfolds, it captivates with its comedic timing and engaging gameplay.
I liked the characters in the Duck Detective: The Secret Salami game. They were all so funny and had their quirks. Unlike in some games, none of the characters annoyed me in this one. They were all relatable and lovable, rare in games with a storyline. The characters were like the ones you’d find in a workplace. I won’t mention their names because part of the fun is figuring out who’s in the game. I don’t want to spoil it!
The art style in ‘Duck Detective’ is really cool. The characters have a sticker-like look with outlining that’s pretty interesting. The game also has a neat ‘paper Mario’ style, adding to its charm. I played with a controller, and the game ran smoothly, making the whole experience even better. Usually, I play point-and-click games with a keyboard and mouse, but this one was enjoyable with the controller, letting me just sit back, relax, and figure out the deductions that needed to be solved. Another great feature is that you can pause to get hints. I like that the hints don’t give you the exact answer, so you still have to figure it out for yourself. It makes the game more engaging. Some hints will give you the answer, but I liked that they didn’t all just give it away.
Honestly, the only thing is I wish the Duck Detective game was longer. It only took me about two and a half to three hours to finish. I really enjoyed it and would have loved to solve more cases. I had so much fun that I think they should make a DLC with more cases. Especially after that ending, we definitely need more content.
I really loved The Duck Detective. I hope Happy Broccoli Games makes more games in this series. Even though it’s a short game, it’s definitely worth playing. I really hope we get some DLC or another Duck Detective game in the future. There’s so much potential in this franchise, and I can’t wait to see what else Happy Broccoli Games comes up with. If you want to play The Duck Detective: The Salami Secret, you can grab it on Steam for PC, Mac OS, SteamOS, and Linux for $9.99 USD. It’s also available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X for the same price. If you’re into investigation games, I highly recommend checking out The Duck Detective: The Salami Secret.
