Dragon Quest IX event

Development on the first true Dragon Quest sequel to come to a Nintendo console since the ’90s, Dragon Quest X, is “going well” and Square Enix is currently at work on the “last parts of the game.”

Creator Yuji Horii spoke about the game’s progress, which we still know very little about, with Nintendo Power. Talking about the decision to bring DQX to Wii, he said, “I feel that some users will want to play Dragon Quest on the big screen, which is why we are working toward releasing it on Wii. Of course, in the future we might develop on handhelds again, so it’s really a case-by-case basis. It all depends on what the customer wants at that time.”

Horii also suggested that the game has been influenced by the PS1’s Dragon Quest VII, which was developed by Level-5 (as was Dragon Quest IX for DS). “Something else we hear is that players want a new Dragon Quest that follows the same system of Dragon Quest VIII, so that’s something else we’re taking into consideration while in development for a Dragon Quest on Wii,” he explained.
