Companion app for iPad allows players to create, play, and edit their Toy Boxes on the go; Disney Infinity Action movie-maker app arriving tomorrow.
Disney Infinity‘s Toy Box mode won’t only be playable on consoles. Disney Interactive today announced the Disney Infinity Toy Box app for iPad, a free download that will allow gamers to create, play, and edit their Toy Boxes on the go.
All Toy Boxes in Disney Infinity are automatically saved to the cloud and are tied to a user’s Disney ID. After downloading the Disney Infinity Toy Box app, players can transfer their creations between their iPad and console to pick up where they left off.
During a media presentation this week, Disney said the Disney Infinity Toy Box app will be a “console quality” and “fully connected” experience that makes use of the iPad’s touch screen. Everything that a player can do in Disney Infinity’s Toy Box mode on consoles can be done on iPad, Disney said.
The app will be out for iPad 2, 3, 4, and mini “very soon,” Disney said. Versions for Android and Windows Phone devices are coming “shortly after” and will see no differences from the iPad app.
“As far as we know, this kind of cross-platform console connectivity has never been done before,” a Disney Interactive representative said.
The Disney Infinity Toy Box app features more than 60 free items to build with, including terrain, track pieces, and decorations. Gamers can play with Mr. Incredible for free and use web codes included with toys to add further characters to the game. Players will also be able to make in-app purchases to increase their Disney/Pixar character roster, though pricing was not announced.
The Toy Box app was not the only mobile game based on Disney Infinity that the company announced today. Disney Infinity: Action!, also a free download, will serve as a movie-maker of sorts, allowing players to shoot videos and add in Disney/Pixar characters like Mr. Incredible, Sulley, and Jack Sparrow.
Users can choose from more than 30 unique animations and props to add to their videos, which can then be shared with friends and the community at large through Facebook, YouTube, and email. Asked if there was potential for abuse, a Disney representative said he believes the community, in large part, will use the app “in the right way.”
“The majority of the people that are going to be using this application are going to be doing it in the right way,” Disney said. “There’s no way for us to prevent people from doing things that are going to be objectionable, but that’s sort of on their hands at that point.”
Disney Infinity: Action! launches tomorrow for iOS devices. It will be available for Android “soon.” Disney Infinity the game hits Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii, Wii U, and 3DS on August 18.
