Blizzard fanboys, leave your rage in the comments!

For as long as the third title in the Diablo series has been announced, there has been speculation whether the title will make it over to consoles. One of the community managers of Blizzard Entertainment under the Twitter handle @Bashiok , had this to say about Diablo III coming to the consoles:

Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project.

This doesn’t confirm whether Diablo III will be the title, and you can’t simply port the PC version of Diablo III to consoles. So, maybe just as console developers usually create a Wii and Xbox 360 / PS3 version of games, Blizzard could create a completely different experience for the consoles.

As reported in November 2010, Blizzard was exploring the possibility of making a console version of the famed 2D live-action RPG franchise. The following February, Blizzard’s CEO Mike Morhaime stated that “Diablo might play very well on a console”.

As of November 2011, Game Director Jay Wilson said this about a Diablo title coming to the consoles:

We don’t want to port it. We want to build it for console. There’s a key difference. Certainly, a lot of things get brought over, but a port is trying to take a PC game and graft it onto a console.

The official Playstation Magazine website in the UK posted this story as well, leading people to believe the game has been confirmed for Sony consoles. But, I’ll wait for confirmation from the publishers officially. For those who think that OXM, OPM, and Nintendo Power have full reign over new news from their respective publishers, you are wrong. Just because a Playstation magazine makes a post online confirming this news, doesn’t make it absolutely true that it’s coming to the Playstation 3 or the PS Vita.

@Bashiok continued to answer people’s questions on Twitter and said that there will be some announcements about the game in the ‘next couple weeks”. Until then, we’ll keep you in the loop for all the latest news.
