Catwoman was known to be in Batman: Arkham City, although it was unclear if she’d simply be a character that’s mentioned or a playable co-op character. As it turns out, she will be featured as a playable character in the story mode that goes beyond anything seen in the first game.
The PlayStation 3 version of Arkham Asylum featured the Joker as a playable character. His role was rather insignificant; cool as it was to shoot people and play with his toys, his role was relegated to an extra mode and he wasn’t dramatically different from Batman. Catwoman is a “genuine, fully-featured playable character” with her own combat system, gadgets, and way of moving through the environment — she doesn’t have a cape to glide, so instead she’s got parkour-style moves, according to GameSpot learned. She even has her own version of detective mode that helps her identify things to steal.
Asked in an interview how developer Rocksteady Studios arrived at the decision to include Catwoman, Rocksteady Studios marketing manager Dax Ginn said, “We’re pretty spoiled for characters, that’s for sure. With Catwoman we get a brilliant character who will allow gamers to indulge their darker side. Playing as Batman, you’ve got this very rigid moral compass, you’re always doing the right thing, you’re delivering justice on the streets of Gotham 24/7.
