Developed by Adamvision Studios and SneakyBox and published by Atari, Black Widow Recharged is an Action Arcade Shoot Em Up and is an updated version of the 1982 multidirectional shooter developed by Atari. Before I go into my review of Black Widow Recharged I would like to thank the developers Adamvision Studios and SneakyBox as well as the publisher Atari for providing us here at thedailygamepad.net with a free copy of Black Widow Recharged to play for this review.

As stated before Black Widow Recharged is an updated version of the arcade game that was developed by Atari back in 1982. Although I have never heard of Black Widow until now I was eager to play it because I do enjoy a good shmup. Black Widow Recharged is best played with a controller and I do highly recommend controller when playing the game. At first, I was a little confused about the controls and what was going on as again I had never played the original version of the game, but as I continue to play the gameplay became more transparent. The main goal of Black Widow Recharged is to take out all of the bugs on the screen in order to earn points. This can be done by shooting at the bugs or using your super web that acts as a bomb that clears all the bugs out where it is pointed on the screen.

The game does give you upgrades such as slowing down the time, shooting in 3-way directions, and multiple bullets just to name a few. However, I will admit that after a while the gameplay can become a little repetitive. For someone such as myself, I don’t mind that it is repetitive because it just motivates me to keep going to obtain a higher score to end up on the leaderboards that the game does offer. However, for some, I can see them playing this for maybe 15 minutes or so before wanting to switch to something else.

Although the game does offer challenge modes for those of you who want more of a challenge and like to complete tasks and earn achievements when gaming. Some of the challenging modes are a little difficult, and I did enjoy them, but for me, I still rather just enjoyed the core game. There is also a co-op mode but at the time of the review I did not get a chance to test it out to let you all know how it runs, but it does appear to be a local co-op so you are going to have to either use Steam Remote Play or Parsec in order to play with your friends.

I will say that the overhaul of the graphics does make the game beautiful and that I did enjoy the music for the game as well, and I honestly think that is what kept me playing the game for as long as I did in the video.

Overall, if you are looking for an arcade action shoot ’em up to play and help pass the time. Then I highly recommend checking out Black Widow Recharged. You can pick up Black Widow Recharged for PC on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One for $9.99 USD.
