Although the word “beta” appears no where in the announcement, BioWare has announced they’ve begun what sure sounds a lot like a beta test for Star Wars: The Old Republic, with “game testing” officially underway.
If you’ve been selected for the initial wave of testers, this means you should now have been notified via email about how to access an early version of the game. Testing is being conducted to “provide valuable feedback to help us tune particular areas of gameplay and begin the process of balancing and tweaking our content,” the announcement explains.
This apparently is technically not a “beta test,” as BioWare calls it a series of “game tests” that will come in various waves that will vary in size. The first wave will be “smaller, more focused tests with community members from North America, and later will expand to other territories.”
