New Imageepoch, Namco Bandai, and Tecmo Koei titles bump down previous number one title; 3DS still soaring high.

The Japanese exclusive PSP Remasters series seems to be bearing monetary fruit for Capcom and Sony if the recent Media Creates sales charts are any indication. The PSP Remastered version of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd for the PS3 placed first on the charts for the week of August 22-28, with 287,829 units sold.

Imageepoch’s new RPG Black Rock Shooter: The Game debuted in second place with 105,277 units sold. Players control a robot girl with a big gun called Black Rock Shooter who has to help mankind survive against an alien invasion in a future version of Earth. The game is played out as a real-time RPG, where players have to shoot down enemies and dodge their attacks while keeping the in-game heat gauge in check. An English version of the title has been announced by NIS America, though a release window hasn’t been set.

The PSP title Mobile Suit Gundam: New Gihren’s Ambition placed third with 75,611 units sold. Players control either the armies of the Federation or Principality of Zeon in the Mobile Suit Gundam universe and square off against each other in turn-based combat.

Two of Tecmo Koei’s meal tickets were placed at fourth and fifth. Samurai Warriors 3 Empires sold 70,254 while the PSP version of Dynasty Warriors 7 sold 25,308. Former champion Rhythm Heaven for the Wii got bumped down thanks to the onslaught of new titles; the game sold 25,063 units.

On the hardware front, the 3DS is still doing well as it sold 60,781 units for the week. The PS3 got a slight sales boost with 33,141 units sold, possibly due to the release of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD version. The PSP sold 31,310 units while the Wii sold 11,342 units for the week.
