Besides buying and selling used videogames and launching the Reward Zone Gamers Club program, retailer Best Buy’s next move to lure prospective game buyers will be to dedicate certain employees to dealing exclusively with videogames.
This is all a part of the company’s goal of becoming the number one games seller, according to a presentation made by senior vice president Chris Homeister. He presented the changes during a meeting with analysts in Minnesota today, Gamasutra reports. “[D]edicated, informed, and engaged employees focused only on gaming” will be joined by desks described as being “the destination for trade, pre-order and digital offers.” These desks will naturally be located in stores’ games sections, which will grow in size as music departments are downsized.
Also noted in the presentation was that in-store credit earned from trading in games can be used on anything in the store, similar to Amazon’s trade-in program. That should help them to better compete with the likes of GameStop, where your only option for spending in-store credit is buying more games.
