Anarchy Reigns, the new Platinum Games brawler, is aiming to bring the sort of loony action we last saw in MadWorld to a much broader audience. Judging by the new info on the game revealed in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, they’ve definitely got half a shot at it.
This week’s salvo of info reveals a little bit more about Anarchy’s single-player mode. Two different story sections were discussed — Whiteside and Blackside — and you’re free to pick which one you want to play first. Whiteside stars new character Leo Victorion, ex-Navy special forces and currently an agent for the Bureau of Public Safety’s Strike 1 team. He and fellow agents Nikolai and Sasha (both already revealed in online trailers) are sent on a mission to kill a suspect in a series of murders. That’s how they run into Jack Cayman, hero of MadWorld and member of the Chasers Guild, a group of hardbodies which handle cases that the police can’t. In the Blackside story, Jack has received a mystery job from an even more mysterious girl, and it eventually leads him to an abandoned city complex where he runs smack-dab into the Strike 1 crew. Presumably a lot of violence results.
Platinum also revealed a few more details on Anarchy’s online play, something that producer Atsushi Inaba talked at length about in an interview a few months back. The modes talked about so far aren’t anything mind-blowing, however — discussed this week are Battle Royal, your basic mano-a-mano deathmatch, and Survival, where teams of three try to survive against an onslaught of computer opponents.
