The following game, “Storyblocks: The King,” was provided to me for thedailygamepad.net and was given to thedailygamepad.net for free by the developers/publishers of the game. I would like to thank the developers/publishers on behalf of thedailygamepad.net for providing a free copy of the game to play for review. Please keep in mind that the review is for the Nintendo Switch and that this game was being played on a Nintendo Switch Lite.
I will admit that I was looking forward to playing Storyblocks: The King on my Nintendo Switch Lite. When I first saw the game, I was immediately intrigued by it. I enjoy playing puzzle games, so I thought this would be a nice addition to my Switch library. However, although the game looked interesting, I did not find myself having a lot of fun with it, and that was disappointing. Now, that’s not to say that everything about the game was bad; it was just not to my liking.
For example, the game allows players to select the next story block, resulting in a choose-your-own-adventure experience with many outcomes. It also provided an enjoyable and short game, which may be ideal for casual gamers. I can see why some people might enjoy the game because of the story and the ability to find multiple outcomes.
However, the biggest thing that bothered me was the controls. I could not deal with the controls. You are left to deal with the left analog stick, and it moves way too fast. So it takes a long time to position the pieces for the puzzle. Unfortunately, there is no way to adjust the sensitivity of the stick in the game; the game options are pretty basic, just allowing you to adjust only the sound and music. I also felt that the game missed out on using the touch screen as a way to play as well.
It feels like it may be a better game on PC; to me, it just did not port very well to the Nintendo Switch Lite due to the controls. I feel that if they had taken a little more time with it, the game could actually be great on the switch, but right now it’s a rough game.
If you would like to give Storyblocks: The King for yourself; the game is across the following platforms PC via Steam and Windows Store. The Nintendo Switch via Nintendo eShop. The PS4 and PS5 via
PlayStation Shop, and the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via Xbox Live Marketplace.
