“These Sunny Daze,” the latest DLC for the cult-favorite boomer shooter “POSTAL: Brain Damaged,” is less a new chapter and more a fresh, sun-baked serving of the same unhinged chaos that made the original so compelling. What began as a vacation for the POSTAL Dude quickly devolves into a furious, politically incorrect rampage, and the result is a DLC that proves the developers at Hyperstrange and Running With Scissors haven’t lost their touch. For fans of the base game, this is a must-buy; for newcomers, it’s a perfect encapsulation of what makes the series so uniquely brilliant.

The narrative hook is as absurd as you’d expect. A newly elected President has declared all gingers public enemy number one, and the Dude’s well-deserved holiday is interrupted by a “nationwide ginger purge.” Stripped of his beloved boomsticks, he must fight his way through a tropical serotonin collapse with an improvisational—and hilariously inappropriate—arsenal. The humor, as always, is the game’s secret weapon. It’s meta, it’s a sharp satire of modern life and online culture, and it never pulls its punches. The jokes land, and the over-the-top, offensive nature of the game is handled with a self-awareness that is rare in today’s gaming landscape.

“These Sunny Daze” excels by staying true to the core tenets of “Brain Damaged” while introducing enough new content to feel fresh. The gameplay is as tight, fast, and satisfying as ever. The fluid movement system, which allows for effortless strafing, sliding, and grappling, remains the heart of the experience. It’s a skill-based shooter that rewards mastery, and the higher difficulty settings are a true test of your ability to navigate the labyrinthine, enemy-packed levels. The new weapons—from the drill-wielding Nyanbrella to the bean-shooting Wiener-Grinder shotgun—are a gleefully weird addition, each with a unique alternative fire mode. While some might feel like creative reskins of existing weapons, they fit the chaotic theme and provide plenty of new ways to dispense justice.

The new enemy types are another highlight, injecting a fresh dose of variety into the game’s well-established formula. From “Tera Chads” to “Xitch Streamers,” the game’s grotesque roster of foes is a constant source of amusement and challenge. They are well-designed and varied, forcing you to adapt your approach on the fly. The level design, while sometimes feeling a bit generic in its interiors, is generally strong, offering expansive arenas for the freeform carnage that is the series’ signature.

At a playtime of around two to three hours, “These Sunny Daze” is a compact and potent experience. It’s a perfect dose of new content that doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s more of what’s already great, and in the case of “POSTAL: Brain Damaged,” that’s a very good thing. It’s a well-crafted, genuinely funny, and relentlessly fun boomer shooter DLC that stands as a testament to the fact that, in a world of ever-serious titles, there’s still a place for pure, unadulterated, politically incorrect entertainment. “These Sunny Daze” is a trip worth taking, and it will leave you both satisfied and begging for more.
