A new Baldur’s Gate role-playing game is in development, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition developer Beamdog has announced.

At this point, we don’t know much about the new game other than that it will use the Infinity engine used in the previous games, and that it will bridge the gap between Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition.

“We have an exciting release planned for this game, something bigger than we’ve ever done before,” Beamdog said. “If you’re looking for more information on Adventure Y [the studio’s codename for the game], check out these pictures which were mysteriously leaked to the forums.”

As for a proper Baldur’s Gate III, Beamdog said it has nothing in the works yet, but that it’s thinking about it and preparing by playing tabletop 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons game in the office.

“We are interested in doing a Baldur’s Gate III,” company president Trent Oster said last month in a Reddit AMA. “We continue to pester the fine fellows at the Wizards of the Coast on a frequent basis about developing the game. To date we haven’t managed to come to an agreement. The plan is to wear them down on until they just give in.”
