Red Faction Armageddon

At GDC Europe, which is underway before Gamescom kicks off later this week, THQ revealed details on its downloadable vehicle combat game based in the Red Faction universe for PSN and Xbox Live. During a session about expansion into the digital download market (via GDC’s official site Gamasutra), THQ Digital creative director Don Whiteford discussed Red Faction: Battlegrounds, which the company considers a companion product to Red Faction (similar to what Capcom has done with downloadable companion products for franchises like Bionic Commando).

While we had previously heard a downloadable Red Faction title was coming, Whiteford did reveal some new details beyond just the name. He said that the vehicle combat game will be viewed from a topdown perspective and allows up to four players to compete on the same screen. He also added that the game will contain achievements that will unlock elements in Red Faction: Armageddon.

He didn’t specify an exact release date, but from what we heard about the game before, it’s expected to release this November or December, a few months before Red Faction: Armageddon ships.
