Tony Hawk Shred

Tony Hawk Ride was supposed to be the series’ return to grace, but became a critical disappointment. Tony Hawk Shred was announced at E3, though Activision kept details scarce. Today, the company shared more info on the upcoming game, and the new direction is surprising.

Shred is being designed with kids in mind, using the cel-shaded graphics and skateboard controller to deliver an over-the-top, arcade experience. The press release mentions “enticing kids to get off the couch and into the action,” so we can probably expect to see it marketed as a fitness game of sorts. The game also adds snowboarding to the mix, making good on an application of the Ride board that seemed likely to get its own game.

The roster includes Tony Hawk, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins, Corey Duffel, Sean Malto, David Gonzalez, Geoff Rowley, Stevie Williams, Chaz Ortiz, and snowboarders Travis Rice, Louie Vito, and Olympic Gold winner Torah Bright. Players can also import their Mii and Avatar characters for the Wii and Xbox 360 versions. The Wii version is being developed by Buzz Monkey, while the 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will be handled by Robomodo.
