During their investors conference call last night, Activision announced that Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will be shipping in North America on September 28, putting it out almost exactly one month ahead of Rock Band 3 on October 26.
“Year-to-date, the music category has been relatively quiet due in part to lack of new releases,” said Activision CFO Thomas Tippl during the call (via Eurogamer). “Warriors of Rock will be our only Guitar Hero release this year, and given its game quality and our full line-up of marketing activities, should generate consumer and retail excitement.”
The draw down in Guitar Hero releases was a deliberate strategic decision Activision made last year, following a surge of releases including official sequels, DS ports, and three different band-specific entries.
