Yet another new studio has been assembled by former employees of Bionic Commando developer GRIN. Called Whiteout, the Swedish development house plans to work on both big-scale projects and smaller games for the downloadable space.
Gamasutra reports that the first game from Whiteout will utilize Crytek’s CryEngine 3 technology — the same engine that powers Crysis 2. Other, lower-budget projects will also be a focus for the studio, as co-founder Joel Fagerlund explained, “At GRIN, we saw the community’s extraordinary response to Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Couple that with the fact that new releases such as Limbo and Joe Danger have been so well received, we know that the digital marketplace is vibrant and thriving.”
Although the studio says it has working prototypes for some of its ideas, we won’t likely see much from Whiteout for a while. The ex-GRIN developers will be attending Gamescom in Cologne, Germany this month, however, so there could be a hint of what’s to come.
