Sources and some users are reporting a possible bug in Android 4.4.2 involving sound files for notifications, ringtones and alarms. The problems appears to be triggered by some file explorer programs that results in new sounds not being recognized as an available sound.

Android has historically made it relatively easy for users to add sound files to their devices just by placing the sound file in the appropriate directory. This bug, if it is confirmed, eliminates the ability to download a file directly to your device causing users to have to connect to a computer to handle the file moving activity.

According to reports, the issues seems to impact users trying to move files with ES File Explorer or Root Explorer. Once a file is copied from the Downloads folder on a device to the appropriate media folder, the file will not show up in the available sounds list. However, several users have responded to the initial report of a possible bug indicating the problem does not seem to be present when using Astro File Manager for many users. It is also unclear whether the problem may be tied to specific devices.

The issue is still being investigated by various people to determine whether it is a problem with Android, with certain file managers, or possibly a combination of both. Have you run into any problems getting media files to show as available sounds for notifications, alerts or ringtones?
