Since announcing Google Play for Education at Google I/O earlier this year, things got quiet related to the initiative. However, last week we saw the official launch of the project including the addition of a specific app to support school administrators who want to deploy Nexus tablets to their students.
The Google Edu Device Setup app will give administrators the ability:
- to enable tablets to receive content from the Google Play for Education shop,
- to configure WiFi connections for the school’s network,
- to lock down child-appropriate settings like turning off location sharing,
- to create an education-specific homescreen.
Google indicates the app will only work on Nexus devices purchased through Google Education. You can check out some screen shots below and we have provided download links if you happen to be a school administrator ready to start deploying Nexus devices in your school district.
